Who is She?

Peyton Smith is an aspiring Alternative Rock and R&B artist with an affinity for audio engineering and production. She grew up with parents that submersed her into Gospel and Hip-hop that led eventually led her to discover her passion for Rock n’ Roll; another genre spearheaded by African Americans. Rock music began to overtake the majority of her musical enjoyment, until her older sister introduced her to the world of Electronic Dance Music, Trap, and House.

Peyton first began her journey through music by spending the majority of her youth as an ensemble trained violist with a secret passion for singing. In her high school years, she studied under Adrian Covian in the Troy High School choral program. As she sought other opportunities, she was accepted into the Detroit Symphony Youth Chorale directed by Eric Taylor as a civic ensemble member that nurtured her passion for choral singing. When granted the opportunity, Peyton made the transition from choral singing in high school to classical vocal training in college where she currently studies at Oakland University. For the first few years of her college journey, She studied under Nadine Washington, an operatic contralto that helped her gain strength in her lower register as a mezzo soprano. Peyton currently studies under Katrina Van Mannen, an operatic soprano and jazz enthusiast, where Peyton was able to explore her passion for RnB and Jazz.

Uncovering her true ministry, Peyton began to pour her time into the melodies that soothed her mind that came about through composing and arranging in the Music Technology program currently at Oakland University. Through her college studies, Peyton has taken on additional piano skills to further delve into her passion for composition.  She is currently focusing on her training in Digital Audio Workstations such as Abelton Live and Reaper in her courses taught by Dr. Benjamin Fuhrman to hone her craft as a future audio engineer.
